2017 HRS Expert Consensus Statement on Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Radiation Exposure in Patients with Cardiovascular Implantable Electronic Devices

The document, chaired by Julia H. Indik, MD, PhD, FHRS, presents recommendations intended to help health care providers of various backgrounds involved in the care of adult and pediatric patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) who are to undergo magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and/or radiation treatment. The document also addresses the safety of employees with CIEDs who may come into an MRI environment.

The document will be featured in a special session on Thursday, May 11. CME will be awarded.

2017 HRS/EHRA/SOLAECE/APHRS/ECAS Expert Consensus Statement on Catheter and Surgical Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation

The document, chaired by Hugh Calkins, MD, FHRS, CCDS, is a complete rewrite of the 2012 HRS/EHRA/ECAS Expert Consensus Statement on Catheter and Surgical Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation: Recommendations for Patient Selection, Procedural Techniques, Patient Management and Follow-up, Definitions, Endpoints, and Research Trial Design. The document provides a comprehensive state-of-the-art review of the fields of catheter and surgical ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) and makes clinical recommendations for the indications for catheter ablation of AF in patients with heart failure and reduced cardiac function and catheter ablation to reduce stroke and also provides recommendations for designing clinical trials and reporting outcomes of clinical trials of AF ablation.
